Tapered diamond section blade with etched panels on both sides. One side with an eagle and the other with a large "U.S." Etched near the ricasso are Ames markings. Chased gilt brass hilt with fixed guard on right side featuring a detailed patriotic eagle and the other side with a folding counter guard with patriotic shield surrounded by arms. Grip wrapped with sharkskin and decorated with gilt brass wire. The knucklebow retains a period black and gilt sword knot. Complete with original gilt brass scabbard. CONDITION: Excellent. Blade retains nearly all of original finish with a couple minor spots of staining. Hilt retains 98%+ original gilt finish with some minor wear to edge of guard and counterguard. Grip excellent showing some light wear. Scabbard retains 80-90% gilt finish with majority of body thinning and some high edge wear on mounts. There are a couple shallow dents.
