The right side features foliate designs, patriotic arms motifs, and an American eagle. The left side with a large script U.S. The right side of the ricasso is etched "Ames Mfg. Co./ Chicopee/ Mass" . The gilt brass hilt is chased with foliate designs on both branches of the guard and at the back of the knucklebow. The back of the guard is decorated with a detailed eagle in flight on the top and foliate designs at the bottom, the pommel is chased with wreaths. Sharkskin wrapped grip decorated with twisted gilt brass wire. Complete with steel scabbard. CONDITION: Excellent, nearly as new. Blade retains all of original mirror polish with only a couple light scabbard marks. The hilt retains about 85-90% original bright gilt finish with some thinning and minor handling wear. Grip excellent with some light wear in high areas. Scabbard retains most of original polish with some areas turning to light grey. It would be nearly impossible to find an example in better condition. From the Jim Linton Collection
