This high condition example features a curved single edged steel blade with wide partial fuller on each side and both sides with 22" panels of etched decoration. The right side decorated with patriotic arms, foliate scrolls, and an American eagle, bottom marked "Ames Mfg Co./ Chicopee/ Mass". The opposite side is decorated en suite and features a large script US. The gilt brass hilt is chased with floral decoration on the quillon and panels of foliate decoration on both sides of the knucklebow on a stippled ground. The pommel is decorated with a flower surrounded by repeating foliate patterns. Brown leather wrapped grip decorated with twisted brass wire. Complete with original steel scabbard. CONDITION: Excellent. Blade retains most of original polish with some light grey staining and minor scabbard wear. Hilt retains about 95% of original gilt finish with some minor areas of thinning. Grip very good with some minor losses to surface. Scabbard excellent, retaining a spotted grey and brown patina. From the Jim Linton Collection
