Slightly curved polished steel blade with heavy rib running into point. The right side engraved "N.P. Ames/ Cutler/ Springfield/ 1837". Ricasso stamped "W.S.". The left side is engraved "UNITED STATES" above two branches. Standard brass hilt copied from the English Dragoon saber. Single line borders and quillon stamped with inspector mark "W.S.". Brown leather covered grip decorated with twisted brass wire. Complete with original steel scabbard with brown finish. CONDITION: Very fine. Blade retains most of its original polish with some grey areas of scattered freckling and some frosting. Hilt retains and unpolished dark patina and grip is very good with some losses to surface. Scabbard retains much of its original brown finish mixed with brown patina. From the Jim Linton Collection
