This sword is one of the finest condition examples known. The polished steel blade has a partial shallow fuller on each side and 20" etched panels on both sides. The right side has an "E PLURIBUS UNUM" banner with American eagle, arms motifs, and foliate scrolls. Etched near the ricasso "Ames Mfg Co/ Chicopee/ Mass". The opposite side features foliate scrolls and arms motifs as well as a large "U.S.". The gilt brass hilt is chased and features a pierced guard and sharkskin covered grip with twisted gilt brass wire. Black leather scabbard with gilt brass mounts, the left side of the throat mount is stamped with Ames Manufacturing marks. CONDITION: Near mint. Blade retains all of its original polish with only a couple dark freckles on each side of the ricasso. Hilt retains nearly all of its original bright gilt finish with only some light wear around the pommel. Scabbard excellent with a couple light storage marks. Mounts retains all of their original gilt finish with a couple areas darkened. From the Jim Linton Collection
