Manufactured from 1868 to 1872 only. Breech blocks were only dated 1869 or 1870, with this example dated 1869. The lockplate is a reused Civil War dated 1863. These rifles were converted using a combination using old and new parts. The barrel and receiver were finished in the white. Full length walnut stock, flat cleaning rod not cupped, two barrel bands, proper pinned military rear sight with sliding leaf, shield knurled hammer, sling swivels on trigger guard and front band. Matching numbers on left side of barrel and receiver. Civil War lock has the US Springfield eagle. No longer any visible cartouche stamps in wood. CONDITION: All of the in the white metal has turned a soft patina, very clean with very little roughness. Wood is excellent with fine grain with usual minor nicks and bumps. Strong rifled bore. Accompanied by a US Civil War type socket bayonet stamped "US".
