A total of 1,020 of these guns were made at Springfield Armory between 1855 and 1856. Barrel markings appear to have been reapplied. Lock is dated 1853. Iron mounted with brass nosecap. Rear sight is missing the folding leaves, staked into the dovetail. Bore altered for .58 caliber. Original swivel ramrod. Correct front sight. This is an extremely scarce gun in any condition and is missing from most US Martial Arms collections. CONDITION: This gun has been overly cleaned. Uniform light pitting on the lock. Bore is pitted. Lock only goes to full cock, spring is weak. Muzzle has been freshened. Stock has been sanded and refinished with some plastic wood repairs.
