Model 1883's with this level of engraving are quite scarce, and this gun has fine patterned Damascus barrels marked "COLT'S PT. F. A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." on game rib with dolls head extension. Case hardened top lever action features automatic safety and double triggers. Action is engraved with 50% very nicely cut varying sized scroll within geometric and line borders, surrounding very finely detailed hunting scenes, with pointer pointing woodcock on left side of action, and a setter watching departing grouse on right. Trigger plate is engraved with patent dates. Serial number is on trigger guard tang. Newer lightly figured European walnut pistol grip buttstock measures 14-1/4" over ribbed hard rubber buttplate. Side panels are checkered and point pattern checkering is at grip. Matching original splinter forend with ebony inlet schnabeled tip has modified Deeley release. CONDITION: Good. Barrels retain a considerable amount of what appears to be their original Damascus finish with some staining. Action is mostly bright silver with some dark stains with traces of case color where protected. Top lever retains traces of its blue. Trigger guard retains traces of blue, and has some deep pitting on bow. Replaced buttstock retains most of its original finish with numerous deep scratches and rubs. Checkering is lightly worn and dark. There is some chipping on front portion of forend, left barrel channel. Forend refinished. Bores are good with some scattered pitting. Action is a bit loose. MGM34.
