Joseph Douglass stamped Huntingdon County fullstock percussion rifle with octagon barrel and rifle sights. Douglass worked from circa 1850 to 1880 in Huntingdon, Pa. This rifle has been featured in several books and periodicals including "Kentucky Rifle Patchboxes and Barrel Marks" by Roy F. Chandler, page 116,#208. Gun has curly maple full stock with high gloss piano style finish and 16 engraved coin silver inlays. Brass furniture with beautifully floral engraved four piece patchbox with "Heart" piercing in spear point finial. Double set triggers with lathe turned front trigger controlling a commercial percussion lock. Engraved pierced sideplate and engraved toeplate. Barrel measures 1 1/8" across barrel flats and has original striped hickory ramrod.CONDITION: Wood retains excellent original finish, but wrist is cracked and has period iron repair. There is also a crack running front of the trigger guard towards the lock and a crack repaired with a copper plate. Triggers do not function possibly just out of adjustment. Metal has nice patina and is in good condition. Nice looking rifle by a super Huntingdon maker.
