This rare sword (second half of 1600s) has close plated silver steel mounts comprising pommel and collar as well as guard. Green cord wrapped, gently wasp waisted grip. Blade has no forging flaws, consistent elongated twists in high contrast, recent polish. An exuberant pattern welded design. Temper line can be discerned, similar to fine Japanese blades. Mounts retain considerable original heavy silver plating inside of guard with silver scrolls. Long steel collar, with some corrosion, grip wrap is in good condition. Accompanied by a modern wooden “resting” scabbard. A very rare Chinese sword - a no-nonsense example probably worn by a military officer in the field. CONDITION: No significant chipping or damage. CORRECTION: Fine Chinese Dao with Pattern Welded Blade and Close-Plated Inlaid Iron Hilt.

Condition: (Good).
