This is a fine pair of mid 18th century rifled Jaeger carbines, both are identical in every way. Both feature swamped rifled octagonal barrels, mounted with ornate chiseled rear sights, and front blade sights. Both inscribed on top flats IOS FRUWIRTH IN WIENN. The barrel tangs are numbered "1" and "2". Both rounded locks have been professionally converted to percussion in Europe and feature decorative hammers. Both feature plain brass furniture and horn nose caps. Both stocks are of highly figured fruitwood and feature sliding sliding wooden patch boxes with brass end caps. Both feature integral wooden trigger guards with brass bows and front finials and both have double set triggers. Stocks are relief carved with ricoco designs around barrel tangs, ramrod entry ferrules, on both sides of wrists, and behind carved cheek pieces. Both have sling swivels near the muzzles and studs at the back on the bottom of the buttstocks. Complete with their original horn tipped wooden ramrods. CONDITION: Barrels and locks retain a gray patina with some traces of original blue finish in protected areas. Both locks are strong and function well and bores are very good. Brass retains an unpolished patina. the stock on one rifle has a crack most of the way through the wrist and some losses around forend on right side. As well as other scattered marks from use. The other rifle has some hairline grain cracks, scattered marks, and one minor chip on trigger guard. One sling swivel replaced. This is a very nice pair of highly decorated Jaeger carbines.
