This rifle has the early "JM MARLIN" stamped frame with octagon bridge. Factory Marlin engraved with deer panel on left and bear panel on right. Barrel is marked "CC JOHNSON THACKERY OH" who was a custom gunmaker at the turn of the century. Frame appears to be a 3F gallery rifle using older JM Marlin frame with standard Marlin Ballard checkered walnut forend with ebony tip and checkered pistol grip Marlin Ballard stock with nickel plated Swiss buttplate. Barrel is a heavy round and the scope blocks are set into the sight blanks with Malcolm 31-3/4" tube scope. Sports single trigger, blued finish and case colored frame. Left side of frame has the two line manufacturer address. CONDITION: Barrel retains approximately 95% of its original blue finish with a few handling marks. Frame colors have basically patterned out. Missing the two tang screws that would have mounted a tang sight. Judging by the colors, there was a tang sight at one time but is no longer present. Lever and block colors have faded. Frame is almost completely engraved. Wood is excellent to near mint with no cracks; beautiful grain and sharp checkering. Bore and action are fine. Beautiful, custom Marlin Ballard single shot rifle.
