Unmarked, slightly curved steel blade with two partial fullers on each side, both sides of blade feature etched panels. The right side shows stands of arms, a large eagle with spread wings and a large "E PLURIBUS UNUM" banner. The other side shows flags and pole arms, scrollwork and a large bold "U.S.". Gilt cast brass hilt features a pieced guard with flowers, scrolls and "US". The front of the guard is stamped with a maker's cartouche with letters "FBD". Pommel cap is profusely decorated with foliage and flowers and has a vacant oval plaque on the backstrap. Chagrin grip wrapped with strand of twisted brass wire. Complete with steel scabbard with brass mounts. CONDITION: Good. Blade shows some wear and some scattered dark spots, retaining a light grey patina with some corrosion and a few nicks to edge. Hilt retains traces of gilt finish in protected areas, otherwise retains an unpolished patina. Grip very good with a few marks from use. Scabbard has been cleaned and shows some denting and scattered dark spotting. Mounts show traces of gilt finish.
