Scarce Galand Sommerville Double Action Revolver of the type given to Custer and his brother Tom by English Lord Berkeley Paget in 1869, and later sold at a 1995 auction for $77,000. This standard configuration example, produced between 1860-1880, has a 5 inch barrel with a drift adjustable front sight and notched rear sight. The caliber is marked on the top left barrel flat with the Galand patent notation appearing in a horizontal oval on the left side. Further down, on the left side of the barrel lug, is the serial number. As true for most British revolvers, each of the cylinders is marked with a small proof with the full serial number repeated on the back face. Minor decorative accents around muzzle and virtually all screws. Barrel and associated lug finished with a high polish midnight blue, balance of revolver case hardened with hammer and trigger brightly polished in the white. Fitted with single piece wraparound checkered grip and buttcap secured with single screw. CONDITION: Barrel and lug with approximately 80% bright original blue. Case hardened components have faded to a pleasant, mellow tone. Hammer and trigger very lightly cleaned. Crisp grip with sharp checkering and no discernible losses. Mirror bright bore with strong rifling. Perfect manual mechanics. An extremely nice, all original Galand Sommerville, difficult to find in any condition.
