Approximately 35,000 Model 1851 Navies were US Martially marked beginning in 1850 through 1873. This is a late Third Model with the small, round brass trigger guard; enlarged loading gate, brass backstrap. Left side of the frame is stamped "COLTS PATENT US". Colt inspector marks can be found as follows: "L" on left front trigger bow, "K" on left rear trigger guard, "K" on cylinder next to serial number. You will find full or partial matching serial numbers on the frame, trigger guard, backstrap, cylinder, wedge, barrel, loading lever and cylinder pin. CONDITION: There is no visible cylinder scene. Barrel and frame stamps are sharp. Brass has numerous dings but has never been cleaned. It appears as if the barrel and loading lever have been cleaned and are devoid of finish. Case colors on frame have patterned out. Screw heads are slightly off center. The one piece varnished walnut grips retain approximately 50% and are very shy at butt, probably from another revolver. While the action lines up and locks up fine it is spongy at rear position. Fine, sharp rifled bore. Very good no finish example of a pre-Civil War Martially marked Colt.
