John Krider was one of the more famous and prolific Philadelphia makers during the 1870's and his arms are considered some of the finest produced during the period. This particular gun is a 30.5" Laminated barrels with a plain top rib that is marked "Philadelphia" and brass front bead. The bottom rib has beaded ferrules for the rod. The action is lightly engraved and locks are marked "John Krider" on both the right and left sides. The forearm is nicely checkered with wedge fastener and finely blued steel tip. The straight grip buttstock is checkered in two point pattern with unengraved full steel buttplate. Both hammers are lightly scroll engraved with serpent patterns on tops. The blued triggerguard is lightly border engraved with finial at front. CONDITION: Very good as lightly restored long ago, most likely by Krider. Barrels retain virtually all of an older restored brown. Bores are excellent. Butt has been restored long ago with subsequent handling marks and a few more significant pock marks near toe. Locks retain traces of original color, which was never very bold. Trigger guard retains about 70% of what appears to be its original blued finish. Buttplate shows some beginning pin prick erosion but is very good overall. Rod is a replacement. These Krider's are really wonderful guns!
