(1924) 26" Dovetailed barrels are engraved "MANUFACTURED FOR GEORGE GIBBS BRISTOL & 35 SEVILE ROW LONDON, W." on narrow swamped game rib. Barrel flats are stamped with Birmingham nitro proofs for 2 - 1/2" chambers. Actual manufacturers serial number "2232" is on bottoms of barrels and water table. Barrels are fitted with leather hand guard. Small framed case hardened boxlock action features automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in silver), and double triggers. Action is engraved with 60% coverage well cut scroll. Blued top lever, floorplate, and trigger guard are engraved with matching scroll. Gibbs serial number "B.6225" is on trigger guard tang. Very attractive intricately marbled and nicely fiddle figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14 -3/8" over ribbed horn buttplate. Flat top point pattern checkering is at grip. A vacant silver oval is on toe line. Matching splinter forend with metal tip has Deeley release. Gun is housed in green canvas case with leather trim, lined in red cloth. A gold embossed Gibbs label is in lid. Case contains cleaning equipment, snap caps, and square oil bottle. CONDITION: Fine to very fine, as partially refinished. Barrels retain over 90% of an old re-black. Action retains 60 - 70% original case hardening color, silvered and browned on fences and around bottom. Blued parts retain most of their original blue, trigger guard perhaps 30%. Stocks retain most of what appears to be their original finish with some added oil, with numerous light marks and scratches. Checkering lightly worn. Bores are excellent. Action is slightly loose, and barrels are off face. Case is excellent, lightly soiled and faded. Straps and handle are good. Interior is excellent, lightly soiled. Label is excellent. Accessories are fine. MGM 165
