This takedown Fowler features a tapered round barrel with English view and proof marks stamped near hooked breech on left side. Flat lockplate features tooled borders and is signed "ASTON" in script in center. Engraved brass furniture includes trigger guard with acorn finial and a full sideplate engraved with foliate motifs and flowers. The takedown stock is of partially figured walnut and features a checkered wrist and brass takedown attachments just behind the entry ferrule. CONDITION: Fair. Barrel has an applied brown patina and has been shortened, probably during the period of use. Lock appears to be a professional reconversion and retains a spotted grey patina. Brass furniture is excellent and retains a mellow, unpolished patina. Stock replaced from takedown joint forward including all ramrod ferrules. There is also an area of restoration just behind the takedown joint. Steel ramrod is a replacement. The original portion of the stock shows heavy wear and scattered marks from use.
