This trade musket is a mixture of original and contemporary components. The lockplate and barrel appear to be original with all other components contemporary. The three stage smoothbore steel barrel is marked "LONDON" on the top flat along with maker's stamp in a circle. The rounded lockplate features tooled borders, a maker's cartouche in the center and tail stamped "BARNETT / 1827". Brass buttplate, serpent sideplate and ramrod ferrules with an iron trigger guard. Full length walnut stock of familiar trade musket form carved with relief panels around barrel tang, lock and sideplate. Complete with hickory ramrod. CONDITION: Barrel and lock show a dark, heavy patina with some areas of heavy corrosion. Lock has been professionally reconverted using mostly period parts. Furniture retains an applied dark patina and sideplate has one break. Stock retains a dark finish and shows one crack on right side of forend. This is a very nice, accurate and well aged Barnett trade musket.
