(1912) One of the special commercial Mauser rifles imported into the US by Hans Taucher of New York before WWI. This gun is featured in both the Hans Taucher catalog, as well as Jon Speed's, Walter Schmid's, and Reiner Herrmann's "MAUSER Original Oberndorf Sporting Rifles" on page 408 #912. This rifle is in the usual caliber 30-06 and has specially selected high quality wood, and is fitted with one third octagon two thirds round ribbed barrel and schnabeled horn forend tip. Unmatted portion of rib on 24" barrel is marked "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER A - G. OBERNDORF am NECKAR." Barrel is fitted with tangent curve rear sight. Rear portion is stamped "7, 6S". Mauser 98 commercial action is marked with makers name and address around receiver ring, which is also marked "U. S. 1906". Serial number and proofs are on left side of ring. Mauser markings are also on sidewall. Blued bolt has classic pear shaped knob and standard bolt shroud and safety. Trigger is double pull. Bottom metal has hinged floorplate marked "Germany" and is retained by button in trigger guard bow. Lightly fiddle figured dark European walnut horn capped pistol grip stock measures features standard right hand cheekpiece. Usual style checkering at grip and forend, horn forend tip, sling loop on bottom, and measures 14" over horn buttplate embossed with "WM" logo. Rifle comes with full length green canvas case with dark brown leather trim lined in red felt. Case contains a leather carrying sling and two keys. Weight: 7 lbs 7 oz. CONDITION: Excellent, retaining nearly all original finishes with some slight silvering on sharp points of blue, scattered minor marks and dings in stock, which has possibly had some added oil. Temper blue on bolt stop and screws is excellent with some light silvering on sharp edges. Bore is fine, strong rifling, dark in grooves. Action is smooth. Case is excellent. MGM 169
