(1882) 28" Dovetailed steel barrels are engraved "Jno. Rigby & Co 72 St. James Street London and Dublin" in script on slightly swamped game rib which has extension for third bite. Barrel flats are stamped with London black powder proofs, Rigby trademarks, and "NOT FOR BALL". Initials "TB" are stamped on bottom of barrels. Case hardened sidelock action opening with underlever over guard has Bissell's patent rising bite third fastener. Breech face is stamped with "TB" monogram along with Rigby and Bissell patent use number "156". Thomas Bissell made most of the guns for Rigby's using this patent. His serial number "1232" is also on breechface. Action also features automatic safety and double triggers. Fences are nicely filed in Rigbys normal foliate style. Action is engraved with near full coverage well cut open shaded scroll. "Jno Rigby & Co" is on each lockplate. Trigger guard has serial number on tang. Nicely marbled and figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14 - 3/4" over red leather covered pad. Elongated tear drop points are behind dipped edge locks. Flat top point pattern checkering is at grip and a vacant silver oval is on toe line. Matching splinter forend has pivoting side lever release engraved "Rigby's Patent". CONDITION: Excellent, as restored, retaining nearly all first class London type renewed finishes on metal and wood surfaces, engraving re-cut on barrels and trigger guard. Checkering competently re-cut. Bores appear excellent, dirty. Action is tight. (New hinge pin, nicely fitted.) An eye catching classic Rigby with great dimensions. MGM 170
