This well-made diminutive carbine features a octagonal rifled steel barrel with patent breech and deep groove on top flat extending from behind rear sight into tang. Date "1891" and maker's mark "VB" stamped in front of rear sight. Flat lockplate featuring a safety catch. Horn buttplate and trigger guard with steel sling swivels and ramrod ferrule. The full length partially figured walnut stock features shaped checkered panels around the wrist and on the forearm as well as small sliding patchbox with checkered lid and a horn nosecap. The carbine is complete with its original ebony ramrod with steel tip. The rifle has double set triggers. CONDITION: Good. Barrel retains a brown patina with some edge wear. Lock retains light brown patina and functions well. Horn trigger guard with one minor chip. Stock has been refinished and shows scattered areas of bruising and marks from use. Overall, an attractive Jaeger carbine.
