This interesting flare pistol is pictured on pg. 120 of "Flare Guns And Signal Pistols" by Robert M. Gaynor Jr. It is described as having been made ina small machine shop, possibly homemade and having been captured in Vietnam. The Vietnamese were known to have made many different types of firearms in small jungle workshops during the war and were extremely resourceful. Interesting cocking mechanism that turns and catches on a spur behind bolt. This style of mechanism was quick and easy to produce and is found on many other Vietnamese jungle workshop type firearms. There are no capture papers. The consignor also notes that this is Austrian, WWI. "H.N." is stamped into the left side of the rear firing pin support. 8 inch barrel, 16 inches overall. PROVENANCE: The Renonwned Collection of Howard Resnick. CONDITION: Retains a pleasing patina, commonly seen on Vietnam bring back weapons. Some minor rust and pitting. WOod grips are good with dings and handling marks. Bore is rusty. Good mechanical function.
