This exact gun is pictured on pg. 266 of "The Hand Cannons of Imperial Japan" by Harry Derby. This is the only known example of the Kawaguchiya 39mm flare pistol. Brass frame. Wood grips. Markings in Kanji on the right side of the frame as well as "C. 9171./ T. 3053./ 32.2.23". The left side of the frame is marked, in English "SIGNAL GUN/ KAWAGUCHIYA FIREARMS/ TOKYO & OSAKA". The barrel is marked on the right side of the lug, in English "MIROKU KOCHI JAPAN". The barrel, hammer, safety, and trigger guard are nickel plated. 8 1/8 inch barrel. PROVENANCE: The Renowned Collection of Howard Resnick. CONDITION: Brass has a nice patina. The finish on the barrel appears to be restored, the other parts retain original plating. Grips are good with handling marks and dings. Good mechanical function. Bore is fine with a couple areas of rust.
