This massive piece was built during World War II to illustrate the inner workings of an M1 Garand for the new recruits, most of whom had never even handled a rifle. These were used all the way until the 1960s in Vietnam. It measures 85 - 7/8 inches in total length with a 47 - 3/8 inch barrel. It is made of an unfinished and raw steel with two piece wood stock. It was built to be assembled with clips. All cutaway sections show how the parts harmonize. Of course it has an amount of wear that would be expected for such a piece. Overall good condition and appears complete. If you collect M1 Garands, this piece would look great in your den. These rarely come up for auction as most were lost or destroyed and would have been discarded by the U.S. Government when the M1 Garand was replaced by the M14 and the M16.
