These pistols were modified from the Webley & Scott No.2 Mark I flare guns just prior to WWII. These were designed for use on light armored vehicles and slid into a housing. The number of these pistols as modified were relatively small. It has been reported that approximately 200 to 250 were assembled and that a number of these pistols were surpluses by Canada in the 1960's. This pistol was used in a similar manner as the 1910 modified Ross smoke projector which was cable fired. Original date of 1918 on the left side of the barrel. 1940 conversion date on the grenade cup. Matching numbers. "M" marked on the bottom of the left grip. PROVENANCE: The Renowned Collection of Howard Resnick. CONDITION: Retains 90% of a black painted finish. All markings are clear. Bore has quite a bit of cosmoline in it. Fine mechanical function. Grips are fine with some handling marks and the usual chipping out of the bottom of the right grip.
