This superb example of L.D. Nimschke's shop engraved 1873 1st model Winchester SRC has full magazine, and front barrel band with an integrated front sight, rear barrel sight is of the standard carbine type. The rear barrel band is in place. Receiver has engraving with large foliates on side plates and flat portion of receiver. A blank panel within the side plate with no inscription. Dust cover is of an oval thumbprint, nickel finish with engraving. The right side of receiver also with large foliates matted on front and rear of the receiver, with punch-dot background and double line borders. The hammer and lever are not engraved, but the lever does have a nickel plating. Carbine stud and ring are in place. The bottom of the cartridge elevator is decorated with double-line cross-hatch and dot engraving. The stock and forearm are straight grain American walnut. Buttplate has a sliding brass trapdoor, without cleaning rods in place. "MODEL. 1873" is roll-stamped on the upper tang in fancy letters. The serial number, "16193" is located on the lower tang between the lever latch and the rear tang screw. CONDITION: Extremely fine. The carbine retains 75% of the nickel-plated finish with minor flaking on the muzzle, top of the barrel, upper barrel band, lever, lower tang, and rear barrel band. Left side of the frame retains 75% of nickel near the saddle ring. The buttplate retains about 25% of the nickel-plated finish. The engraving is crisp and deep. The stock with added finish, with a few compressions and surface scratches on the high part of the stock, right side with also some compressions and scratches with no chips or wood missing on either right or left, no cracks are visible. The forearm is in very good overall condition with no added finish, a few handling marks, rear barrel band looks to have never been removed, there are some scratches and chips around rear barrel band area and some dings on top of barrel behind rear barrel band. All screw heads look unmarred with the exception of one on bottom of frame and bottom of butt plate. The bore is bright and shiny and the action operates properly.
