The Savage Model 1895 lever action rifle was the predecessor of the famed Savage Model 1899. It was lightyears ahead of its time when the bulk of the lever action rifles being made had to use blunt nose bullets to keep from igniting the cartridge preceded it in the magazine. The rotary style magazine invented by Savage meant that no bullet rested upon the primer of another cartridge, which allowed for the European style Spitzer bullets to be used; which meant for better velocity and flatter trajectory on longer ranges, unheard of at the time in any other lever action rifle made. The short production span for the Model 1895 and the small survival rate makes it very difficult for one to find any surviving models in decent condition. This rifle features full round barrel, replaced bead front sight, sporting rear sight, walnut forend with small Schnabel, walnut buttstock with plain sideplates and rifle buttplate. Standard finish was blued with case colored lever. CONDITION: Barrel is basically gun metal grey with sharp legends. Frame is a blue-brown patina with some light added finish but looks good. Case colored lever has been reblued as well. Walnut stocks with small Schabel are very good to excellent with usual dings and one hairline stress crack at top of tang. Visible rifling but dark. Fine action.
