This nicely carved Fowler was found in Taunton, Massachusetts and is in as found and untouched condition. The smooth bore round barrel is in its original full length and features a small front sight and a groove on the tang. The unmarked flat lock plate is in its original flintlock configuration. Featuring unengraved american made brass furniture. The full length stock is of figured cherry and features a relief carved early club form butt. An ornate shell in the New England style is carved behind the barrel tang. There is an early repair using sheet tin pinned to the forend on the left side, just forward of the entry ferrule. The original brass band still remains near the muzzle. Complete with period, possibly original steel ramrod. CONDITION: Good. Barrel and lock retaining dark freckled patina. The lock is functional. Brass retains a dark patina with one small area of loss on entry ferrule from ram rod. The stock retains a pleasing dark patina with some areas worn smooth from use. There is one chip at the toe on the right side of the butt stock and some minor chipping around back of lock tang. The forend has some losses and splintering on both sides as well as age cracks and old repairs. One small section near the muzzle has been restored and measures about 6" in length. This is a fine example of a completely American made New England club butt Fowler.
