This pistol dates circa 1780 and features a round tapered steel barrel, stamped on left side of breech with English proof and view marks, as well as "IW" for maker John Waters. Flat steel lockplate with detached pan. One-piece stock of brass with steel pick in center of pommel, steel ball trigger, steel belthook, and ramrod. For a similar example, see page 134, figure 41 of "British Military Pistols" by Robert Brooker. CONDITION: Good, as cleaned. Steel has been cleaned bright and has some scattered dark spotting and freckling. Brass retains a mellowing patina.
