Fine presentation saber features a plated steel blade with single fuller on each side. Left side of ricasso etched "V./ PASQUALE/ CO. INC./ SAN/ FRANCISCO/ CAL.". Each side of the blade features a 19" panel of etched decoration. The right side with an eagle in the center and an "E PLURIBUS UNUM" banner, as well as other shields and arms motifs. The left side with arms motifs and a "U.S.". Gilt brass hilt profusely chased with detailed decoration including and eagle posed on a large ring surrounded by flags. The capstan finial is an eagle and the tang of the pommel features a bearded man. The back of the guard has an eagle clutching arrows and a patriotic shield in high relief. Textured sharkskin wrapped grip with strand of braided gilt brass wire. Nickel plated steel scabbard inscribed between the top mounts "Presented to/ Captain Thomas Eccles/ BY THE MEMBERS OF CO. Blade has some minor losses to finish near tip and some very small areas of freckling near ricasso. Hilt retains nearly all of gilt finish with some high edge wear and thinning. Scabbard is excellent with a few scattered nicks and marks from use. Mounts retain approximately 50-60% gilt finish, mostly thinned to expose brass beneath. A very nice, pre-World War I presentation sword.
