This gun with its 30" barrel and short length of pull was undoubtedly made for a lady, or a man of short stature. 30" barrels are quite scarce on single barrel trap guns. The Knick was introduced in 1922 and had an improved bolting system, and barrel was made in one piece, instead of the mono-bloc arrangement as used in the Flues. The Knick Model remained basically unchanged for about the next 80 years. This gun has 30" barrel with matted ventilated rib. Barrel flats are engine turned. Serial number and grade are stamped on lump. Case hardened action with blued, checkered trigger, is engraved in usual "5E" style with near full coverage large shaded acanthus surrounding ovate sporting vignettes of multi-colored game birds; a gold pheasant standing in light gold grass is on left, and a snipe is walking in light gold foliage on right. Eagle with wings spread is engraved over "MADE IN U. S. A." and Ithaca name and address are on bottom of action. Blued trigger guard with acanthus on bow has serial number on tang. Nicely crotch figured American walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 13-7/8" over Ithaca sunrise pad. Fleur-de-Lis checkering is at grip, and side panels are checkered. A vacant gold oval is on toe line. Matching reverse tapered beaver tail ejector forend has an inset ebony tip, and Deeley type release. CONDITION: Excellent, as completely reconditioned, most likely by factory, retaining nearly all re-applied traditional finishes on wood and metal. Checkering worn, and does not appear to have been re-cut. Bore is very fine with some light scratches. Action is tight. Ejector is strong.
