This factory engraved revolver has full or partial matching serial numbers on the frame, barrel, trigger guard, backstrap and wedge. Cylinder number not readable. The entire gun has been silver plated and when they did the polishing, they removed a lot of the detail of the engraving, cylinder scene and serial number. This was a factory engraved revolver as evidenced by the "IE" stamp on frame, trigger guard and backstrap which stood for ivory engraved. Boasts a beautiful pair of full checkered ivory grips. The ivory grips alone are worth $1,500. Engraving is you typical Nimshke style scroll with wolf head hammer. Brass trigger guard and steel backstrap. Colt patent stamped on left side of frame is visible. "44 CAL" on left trigger bow. Revolver was cut for shoulder stock. CONDITION: Approximately 30% of the detail of the engraving has been polished off. No visible cylinder scene. Under the silver plating is some areas with salt and pepper pitting but not bad. Brass has been polished. All screws are marred. Grips have some aging but are still in beautiful condition and fit properly. Looks to have been done long ago; this is just a case where some fool who didn't know what he was doing, attempted to make this revolver look new again and only succeeded in ruining a rare 1860 factory engraved Colt. Still has a pretty good look and if you want to spend the money to get it redone, it would sure do this revolver wonders. Timing is off. Action is good. Strong, clean bore. This just may be a gun worth the expense of bringing back to life.
