Manufactured in our Centennial year of 1876 this Special Order Winchester Model 1873 has the full octagon 24 inch barrel mounted with sporting blade front sight and elevator adjustable rear sight with knurled edges. Full magazine and Two piece American walnut stocks with crescent butt. The Early 1st Model receiver with thumbprint dustcover is Nickel finished and has a single set trigger. The forend cap and butt plate are period Nickel finished to match. This two tone finish was a very popular request with Winchester and was very practical as the Nickel finish resisted corrosion. This is documented by a letter from the Buffalo Bill Historical Center That rifle serial number 18255 was shipped with 24 inch barrel , set trigger, half nickel finish on April 21st 1876. Chambered for the 44-40 cartridge as all 1st model are. CONDITION. Very fine overall with over 80% original finish remaining on the barrel and magazine tube. The receiver has retained over 95% of the Nickel finish as well as the forend cap and butt plate. The set trigger operates properly and the action is very smooth and functions properly. The bore is very fine with sharp rifling. The two piece American walnut stocks are very fine with most all of their factory applied Varnish remaining. A fine Winchester 1st model.
