Lot contains: (A) U.S.N. Type G-1 flight jacket, the left breast exhibiting a painted leather squadron patch "VB-6", embossed thick leather name tag reading "Lt. R.H. Best". The right breast with six stenciled bombs. While this is a completely original U.S.N. flight jacket, we are of the opinion the squadron patch, name tag and painted bombs were added post period. CONDITION: The jacket exhibits moderate wear, excellent knitted cuffs, working zipper with attached brass whistle. (B) U.S. Army Type A-2 flight jacket made by the Aero Leather Co, Beacon New York. The left breast exhibits a thick leather name tag embossed with bombardier wings and "Thomas W. Ferebee", working Talon zipper. The back stenciled with 60 white bombs. While this is a completely original World War II A2 flight jacket, we are of the opinion the name tag and painted bombs were added post period. CONDITION: The jacket exhibits moderate wear to the leather, knitted waistband and cuffs. From the Ray Bentley Collection.
