Many of these guns were converted to percussion for use in the Civil War. This particular gun is "MS" marked on the left side of the barrel for Massachusetts. This gun features the cone-in-barrel or “Belgian” conversion from flintlock to percussion. Matching 1833 dates on the barrel tang and lock. In addition to the standard barrel proofs and "MS" marking, there is "1465" stamped into the top of the barrel between the nipple and the breech plug seam. Cartouche on the left side of the stock opposite the lock. Accompanied by a US marked socket bayonet with a 1" wide blade at the shank. CONDITION: All metal surfaces have been cleaned at some point with light pitting. Markings are clear. Lock is in good working order. Stock is fine, having been very very lightly cleaned at some point. Bore is bright with some areas of minor surface rust. Bayonet has been cleaned as well with some minor pitting. Previous owner purchased this Musket in Boston in 1942.
