Scarce and desirable Winchester Model 1886 rifle with 26 inch tapered round barrel chambered for the 45-70 cartridge. Takedown with blue receiver full magazine and crescent butt . Two piece American walnut stocks with folding two position Beech front sight and ladder adjustable 1886 rifle rear barrel sight. Lyman tang sight is mounted on tang. Case colored hammer and lever. Manufactured in 1898 this classic pattern 1886 Winchester rifle was considered the finest pattern of rifle ever manufactured by Winchester according the engineers and employees at he factory. The powerful 45-70 cartridge could handle anything in north America and made their way to Africa and even India. CONDITION. Very fine with mirror bright bore and sharp rifling. The two piece walnut stocks are very good with one very small sliver missing at top right side of wrist and a prominent gouge at lower right wrist. stocks are very solid and retain most of their factory applied varnish . The barrel and magazine both retain over 80% of their blue finish with some thinning and browning at center, Receiver has 75% original factory applied blue finish with losses at balance point. and striations on both sides.
