This recent discovery is the very FIRST Volcanic Pistol Carbine produced. The Volcanic Arms Company merged into the New Haven Arms Company who later produced the Henry rifle and evolved into the Winchester Repeating Arms company. This pistol carbine represents the very first cartridge carbine produced by the historic company that made the guns that won the west. Serial number one has a 16 1/2 in octagon barrel with integral magazine with pinched post front sight that unlike later model retains the front sight collar, with the legible Volcanic Arms address on the top barrel flat. Gun metal brass frame with adjustable rear sight. Serial number one is found on left frame flat under grip. ,both smooth walnut grips on side. , both side plates , bolt, bottom of frame and ring lever. This .41 cal pistol carbine had an incredible amount of firepower for it day with a magazine capacity of 20 rounds of the .41 Cal, Volcanic cartridges. Smooth two piece walnut grips with single retaining screw are varnished and have an iron escutcheons. Fitted with a detachable shoulder stock that is a faithful reproduction of the original. CONDITION, Very good with barrel being a light coffee grown patina with legible markings and bright shiny bore with deep sharp rifling. The gun metal brass frame is a very nice mustard coloring. The action is smooth and functions properly. The two piece grips are very good and have restored varnish finish. This fresh to market discovery is a rare opportunity to own the genesis of the Winchester evolution. TDW
