Round barrel marked with "WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CT. / KINGS IMPROVEMENT PATENT MARCH 28, 1866 OCTOBER 16, 1860". Barrel with full magazine with front barrel band fully engraved. Rear barrel band is also engraved. Front sight is integrated with barrel band. Rear sight is of a standard carbine type. Saddle ring and stud on receiver are in place. Receiver is engraved with a silver wash that is turning dark. Top of receiver also engraved and silver plated with right side of receiver engraved and silver plated. Hammer is engraved and silver plated. Lever is engraved on bottom and also silver plated. Stock is of "XXX" grade, so marked on lower tang. Buttplate is engraved and silver plated. CONDITION: Round barrel and magazine tube retain 80-90% of the restored blue with dark plum setting in. Receiver is engraved with silver plating that amounts to about 95% finish remaining. Right side of receiver is 95-97% silver plating remaining. Loading gate 95-97% nitre blue. Hammer retains 90% silver plating. Lever is silver plated with 40-50% silver remaining, balance turning a dark patina. Wood is of a feather crotch pattern with piano finish that has few light surface scratches and impressions overall. Stock at one time was repaired as is quite evident with a crack at wrist that goes through both sides from the upper to lower tang. Stock has been repaired and all numbers in upper channel were removed during the repair, although this cataloger feels this stock is original to gun. Buttplate retains 85-90% original nickel. Shiny bright bore with light to medium pitting in chamber end of barrel and on muzzle end of barrel with deep rifling. Cycles properly and mechanics are fine.
