This patriotic sword features a curved steel blade with wide single partial fuller on each side. Both sides has 16" blued, etched and gilded panels of decoration. The right side features engraved florals and a shield, Liberty cap and other arms. Two small etched panels within the decoration, one depicting a Liberty cap. The opposite side decorated en suite with flags and arms motifs. The gilt brass reverse P hilt is profusely chased with oak leaves and cannonballs, and features decorated languets on both sides. The backstrap has a patriotic shield and the pommel depicts an eagle in high relief. The one piece bone grip has panels of fluting separated by wedding bands. Complete with gilt brass scabbard, profusely decorated with foliate designs on a shaded ground with patriotic eagle engraved between the two ring mounts clutching arrows and a shield. Below is the name "GEN. OWEN". CONDITION: Good. Blade retains about 60-70% bright blue finish with some thinning and fading to brown towards the ricasso. The engraved designs retain generous amounts of gilt wash. The undecorated portion of the blade shows a mix of dark, heavy patina and brown spotting. The hilt retains about 70% original gilt finish with some high edge wear, especially on pommel, quillon bent to the left. Grip has one minor chip below the pommel. Scabbard retains 90-95% original gilt finish with some scattered scratches and minor denting on the back.
