This sword features a tapered, straight single edge blade with single fuller on each side. The right side features a 12-1/2" panel of blued and gilt decorated designs including arms motifs and scrolls. The ricasso is marked with a "W". The other side is decorated en suite. Gilt brass hilt with quillons featuring relief American eagles. Pommel is an Indian chief and grip scales are of Mother of Pearl. Complete with original gilt brass scabbard engraved with foliate designs. The back, near the throat has a applied "HORSTMANN / & / SONS / MAKERS / PHILADA". CONDITION: Very good. Blade retains about 90-95% bright blue and gilt finishes. Polished portion of blade has some grey staining and a couple nicks to edge. Hilt retains generous traces of gilt finish, otherwise retains an unpolished patina. Grips are excellent with some minor scratches. Scabbard has traces of gilt finish around frog stud, which is slightly bent downward; otherwise retains a dark, unpolished patina.
