Lot contains: (A) An imported Model 1832 Foot Artillery sword with scabbard. Straight double edge blade with three fullers on each side and of standard pattern. Right side of ricasso marked with a King's head proof. Cast brass guard with eagles on each side of pommel. Complete with black leather scabbard with brass mounts. CONDITION: Very good. Blade with a few scattered areas of freckling, otherwise retaining most of its original polish. Hilt and scabbard are excellent with a few minor marks. (B) Model 1840 Musician's sword with scabbard. Straight blade with partial single fuller on each side, both sides decorated with 12" panels of etched decoration including flags and instruments. The ricasso on the right side is stamped "HORSTMANN / PHILADELPHIA". Standard gilt brass cast hilt with D guard complete with black leather scabbard with gilt brass mounts. CONDITION: Good to very good. Blade retains most of original polish with about 2" at the tip on both sides corroded and turned dark, otherwise a few scattered areas of staining. Hilt retains about 90% of original gilt finish with some areas flaked and turned brown. Leather on scabbard is brittle and has some losses to finish and much of stitching on back has separated. Mounts retain approximately 60-70% original gilt finish with some areas turned to brown. (C) Bannerman hilted Artillery Officer's saber with scabbard. Fine curved blade with two partial fullers on each side. Long 17th panels of etched decoration on each side; the right side with a patriotic stand of arms and scrollwork, the left side en suite. Ricasso on left side stamped "HORSTMANN / & SONS" and ricasso on right side stamped "PHILADELPHIA". Above the ricasso on the right side is an etched panel which reads "WH / HORSTMANN / & SONS / PHILADELPHIA". Bannerman hilt of cast brass with black painted grip. Complete with heavy steel scabbard. CONDITION: Blade is excellent and retains nearly all of original polish and etched surfaces with only some dark areas at top of ricasso, near new. Hilt retains an unpolished patina and scabbard retains a grey patina with some corrosion near throat on right side. A nice lot of pre-Civil War swords.
