This high grade presentation sword features a double edged diamond section steel blade with 18" etched and gilt washed panels of decoration. The right side etched " To Captain Evan G. Boyd from the Enlisted Men of Company G 1st Delaware U.S.V. Infantry" surrounded by scrolls. The opposite side with a large Old English "U.S.", arms motifs and scrolls. The ricasso with an etched panel "JACOB REED'S / SONS / PHILA / PA". The gilded cast brass hilt features a fixed guard on the right side showing an American eagle with three flags on each side; the opposite side has a folding counterguard with a patriotic shield surrounded by arms. The pommel has an eagle on the right side in high relief. the silver grip has each section chiseled with decoration and divided by a strip of decorated brass. Complete with its original nickel plated scabbard with pierced gilt brass mounts featuring an eagle on the throat mount and arms motifs on the second mount. CONDITION: Very good. Blade retains a spotted grey patina with about 70-80% gold wash still present. Hilt retains about 80-90% original gilt finish with some high edge wear. Scabbard mounts retain nearly all of their original gilt finish and scabbard itself has almost all of its original finish with only a couple minor dents.
