(1972) The top of the current Franchi line, this superbly made gun has 27 - 3/4" chopper lump barrels fitted with raised, matted game rib. Side of left barrel is engraved "S. A. LUIGI FRANCHI BRESCIA" "MADE IN ITALY". Barrel flats are stamped with 1972 Italian nitro proofs for 2 - 3/4" chambers. Bottoms of barrels have choke and steel information. Coin finished sidelock action features non-automatic safety (SICURA engraved), bushed strikers, and single non-selective trigger. Water table is marked with Franchi logos, serial number, and grade (Imperiale Montecarlo Extra). Action is engraved with a full coverage explosion of very well cut minuscule scroll which extends to within 1/64" from edges, and given depth by polished fillets on bottom and sides of action and beads around fences. Bottom of action is also engraved "SPA L. FRANCHI" "BRESCIA". Blued top lever and single beaded trigger guard are engraved with more scroll. Engravers signature, "F Medici" on trigger plate. Very finely marbled and nicely figured flesh-toned European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14 - 1/2" over black rifle pad. Drop points are behind lockplates and well cut point pattern checkering is on diamond hand. Matching beavertail ejector forend with Anson release has gold inlaid Franchi crest engraved "Imperiale Montecarlo Extra". Gun is housed in dark brown leather case with leather corners, lined in burgundy cloth. A Franchi label is in lid and case contains a key. CONDITION: Excellent, with evidence of casual field use, with some scratches and light marks on barrels. Coin finish remains bright, with a scattering of marks in wood, mostly on right side of butt, and a bit of wear on forend which also has a small chip in right side barrel channel. Bores are excellent. Mechanically excellent. Case is excellent. The current Franchi Imperiale Montecarlo Extra, as made by Beretta, retails at over $140,000.00.
