Manufactured in 1868. Chambered for the .44 Henry Rimfire. 24" full octagon barrel with standard two line address and correct 900 yard rear sight. Receiver is masterfully engraved by Samuel J. Hoggson in flowing arabesque scrolls and floral patterns with full factory silver plating. Engraving flourishes on nose cap at buttplate. This rifle comes mounted with highly figured deluxe grade American walnut wood. Fitted with factory sling swivels on stock and nose cap. CONDITION: Very fine as partially restored. Nearly 98% restored finish remains on barrel and magazine tube. More than 95% of silver plating remains. Hammer has majority of case color. No engraving on hammer or lever. Blue finish on lever with 50% blue remaining. Nose cap is engraved with 40% silver finish remaining. Wood condition is near perfect with just a few compressions, and minor shrinkage crack at butt plate screw. Stock is deluxe American walnut and fits receiver perfectly, as does buttplate to stock. Two marks in top comb of stock that do not take from value. Screw heads are intact and not marred. Top of buttplate is engraved with 95% oxidized dark silver plating remaining. Rifle cycles perfectly. Mechanics are fine. The elegance of the Hoggson style engraving and the extreme beauty of the piano varnished figured wood makes this rifle exceptional.
