The blade and pommel of 17th century date, the massive cross guard pierced with fleur de lis design and curled designs on finials also appears to be of 17th century date. The partially leather bound waisted wooden grip of much later date. CONDITION: Some repairs to the cross guard. The pommel and cross guard in clean condition. The blade with deep fullers at ricasso with old patination and some minor surface pitting. This is a most impressive example of this well known form and is considerable earlier than usually encountered.
