This sword is in the style of a Model 1840 Cavalry saber. Unfullered single edge curved steel blade, unmarked. Cast brass hilt with two branch guard and inset face on front of guard. The wooden grip is wrapped with black finished canvas and a single strand of steel wire. The sword is complete with its original scabbard of black leather, perhaps Froelich production, with heavy cast brass mounts and iron rings. CONDITION: Good to very good. Blade retains a grey patina overall with some dark spotting and areas of corrosion. Cutting edge has a few scattered nicks. The hilt retains a very dark, untouched patina and the grip is very good with some minor losses to black painted surface. Scabbard is very good with some cracking and scattered areas of losses to finish. Mounts retain a dark unpolished patina. Drag possibly replaced, as well as ring on throat mount.
