Lot contains: (A) The as new curve steel blade has two partial fullers on each side. The right side of the ricasso is stamped "U.S / L.D./ 1862", and the right side is stamped with Ames markings within a scroll. Leather washer at top. Standard Model 1860 two branch brass hilt. The front of the guard is crudely inscribed "H.W. PATRICK". Brown leather covered grip with twisted brass wire. Steel scabbard with two retention rings. CONDITION: Excellent. Blade is as new with only some light scabbard marks. Markings are excellent. Hilt retains generous amounts of original lacquer and shows only a few light handling marks. Grip with some minor losses which have been touched up. Scabbard is very good with a mix of grey and brown patina and has no denting or corrosion. (B) Standard Model 1860 Cavalry saber. Right side of ricasso "U.S./ G.W.S./ 1864" and left side is stamped with large Ames markings. The left side of the knuckle bow is stamped "FRANCIS E. ANDERSON. CO. C.M.H.V.V.C.AV.U.S.A 1865". This would be the 2nd Regiment of Missouri Cavalry, which was Merrill's Horse Volunteer Cavalry. CONDITION: Good. Blade shows a light grey spotted patina and edge has been sharpened during the period of use. Markings are very good. Hilt retains a dark, unpolished patina with some dark spotting and scattered marks from use. Grip has a crack on each side and shows some losses to leather. Scabbard retains a dark, heavy patina with some minor denting.
