The Grade 1 was top of the Greifelt line, as imported by VL & D, and A&F before World War II. It had a retail price of $450.00 in 1933. The single trigger was a $35.00 option. This unusual 28 gauge gun has 26" demi-bloc barrels fitted with solid matted rib. V L & D markings are on top barrel, and breech section is engraved in rose and scroll. Bottom barrel is marked "28 - 3-1/2" and "GERMANY". Coin finished, scallop backed boxlock double Kersten over-under action features non-automatic safety and single selective trigger. Action is engraved with near full coverage cleanly cut traditional rose and scroll surrounding game scenes; Quattro of pheasant on left, and grouse (?) on right. Both are over "Greifelt & Co Suhl". Fences are deeply relief carved with exceptionally well done open scroll with floral highlights. Trigger guard with rose and scroll on bow, has serial number on tang. Lightly stump figured dense European walnut round knob pistol grip buttstock measures 14-1/2" over Silver type pad. Flush diamond horn drop points are in front of point pattern checkering at grip. Matching long semi-beaver tail three piece ejector forend has Anson type release. A&F information indicating gun was made circa 1926, and was sold in 1929 for $400.00 and again in 1934 during the Depression for $350, is included. CONDITION: Excellent, as refurbished. Barrels retain nearly all of a good quality re-black, sharp edges softened. Action retains traces of original case hardening color where protected, is mostly a grey coin finish. Stocks retain nearly all of a well done hand rubbed oil finish with some light marks. Checkering competently re-cut. Bores are excellent. Action is tight. Ejectors are strong and in time. Trigger appears to work well. A snappy little lightweight 28 ideal for woodcock or quail. MGM 10
