Tapered round smoothbore steel barrel stamped "V/P/eagles head" on left side of breech and fitted with bayonet lug on top of shortened muzzle. Lock plate stamped with eagle in center over "US" and marked "SPRING/FIELD/1820" at tail. Reinforced cock stamped "VT". Standard steel model 1816 furniture, most components stamped with "D" or "EA" inspectors marks. Left side of full length walnut stock stamped "ET" cartouche for inspector Elisha Tobey. Stamped with initials "LJ" and an "S" in cartouche behind trigger guard tang. Buttplate tang stamped "US". Complete with replaced steel ramrod. CONDITION: Good. All steel components retain a spotted grey patina with scattered areas of freckling and some corrosion at breech. Lock is in original flintlock configuration and mechanism functions well. Barrel has been shortened by about 1-1/4" at muzzle. Stock excellent with clear cartouches and a few scattered storage marks. Marks on steel components are excellent.
